Representation

Women in Nepal are poorly represented in schools, government, and employment, and have therefore little influence or choice over their own lives and wellbeing.

The following research by CEDAW illustrates how women in Nepal are not represented in either local government, the legislature, or the business sector:

Nepal is one of the only countries in the world where women have a lower life expectancy that men – a direct outcome of their quality of life and representation in decision-making organisations that could affect great changes in their own lives.

Despite what may normally be the case, in many areas some have argued that the representation of women has actually got worse in Nepal since the democratic movement in 1990.
